Becky - Recovery Worker
Staff Spotlight: Becky Lambert
Becky joined the River Garden team with a wealth of experience and a genuine heart for people. Having previously worked with Simon Community Scotland in specialist services for women experiencing homelessness, she brings a deep understanding of the complexities of recovery and a commitment to making the world a better place.
An accomplished musician and a passionate environmentalist, Becky is happiest when she is outside. Whether she is out on a long cycle, walking the Ayrshire coast, or "upcycling" rubbish into beautiful crafty creations, she finds joy in the simple things. Her love for the environment goes hand-in-hand with her work at River Garden; she is a firm believer in
the "magic and power of nature" and loves witnessing the changing seasons alongside the residents.
What drew you to River Garden? I fell in love with River Garden from my very first visit. I’ve always enjoyed supporting people to solve problems and find new perspectives, and this felt like the perfect place to do that. It is a privilege to witness the "changing seasons" in our own lives as well as in the gardens themselves.
What is your approach to recovery and self-care? My biggest piece of advice is to give yourself the same grace and patience that you so easily give to others. To someone starting their recovery journey, I’d say: you’ve already done the hardest part by accepting that change needs to happen. Now comes the exciting part—discovering who you are. Every step is a learning journey, and nothing is wasted.
What do you do to switch off? I grew up by the sea, so I’ve loved getting to know Prestwick beach. There is nothing like the fresh smell of sea air and the wind on your face to make you feel alive! Otherwise, you’ll find me eating ice cream, going for long bike rides, or getting lost in the cinematography of my favourite film, 1917.
A quick "Cracker Joke" from Becky: Q: Where can you weigh a whale? A: At a whale-weigh station!
