The Connection: People, Soil, and Food
I was drawn to River Garden after a colleague recommended it to me as a place that perfectly aligns with my professional passions: growing people, soil, and food. There is something incredibly powerful about the relationship between nature and personal growth.
What makes River Garden stand out to me is the holistic approach and the power of peer support. The unwavering support provided after the initial six months, combined with the endless opportunities for creativity, creates an environment where true transformation can happen.
The First Steps to Change
If you are considering recovery, I encourage you to look at your "pros and cons" and ask yourself what has brought you to this point. Most importantly, I’d ask: “What would supportive recovery look like for you?” I am particularly focused on addressing the cultural acceptance of addiction in our society. By changing the culture, we can create a more supportive world for people to heal in.
Mindfulness & Nature
My own self-care is rooted in the outdoors. I find my peace during long walks in nature, which allows me to practice the same advice I give to others: fully appreciate the moments of today. I encourage everyone to pause and truly be aware of their surroundings—the sights, the smells, the sounds, the heat of the sun on your back, or even the specific taste of your food. When we ground ourselves in the present, we find the space to breathe.

- A Quick Smile: How many Social Workers does it take to change a light-bulb? Only one—but the light-bulb has to really want to change.
