A Life Worth Fighting For
My path to becoming a recovery worker is rooted in my own lived experience. I have a deep desire to provide hope to others and to help them build a life they can truly enjoy. I am also a local resident with strong ties to our community, and I am proud to support a service as special as River Garden—there really isn't another place quite like it.
If you are considering recovery, please know this: even in your hardest moments, your life is worth fighting for. You deserve a peace you haven’t met yet, and I will believe in your strength until you can feel it in yourself.
Healing in Small Steps
I am particularly concerned with how deeply "culture-appropriate" addiction has become in Scotland. To combat this, I believe we must focus on the individual and their own journey.
My best advice for anyone on this path is to be gentle with yourself. Healing is a "slow blooming," and even the smallest steps you take are seeds of light that will eventually grow.
Moments of Stillness
To take care of my own wellbeing, I value the power of the sauna and always make sure to carve out a few quiet moments to myself. These small pockets of time allow me to recharge so I can give my best to our residents.
I find my greatest peace in nature. My favourite place in Ayrshire is a bit of a secret—a small wooden door on a slight hill in the middle of the woods. Behind it, fresh drinking water runs down from the hills. It’s my own private sanctuary for reflection.
A Few Favourites
- Favourite Movie: Cry-Baby. Johnny Depp is stunning in it, but I also love the message of the film—how people judged him before they truly knew him, when in reality, he was a kind and wise man.
- Favourite Cracker Joke: Why was the employee fired from the calendar factory? Because he took a day off!
